SF Works works through and with San Francisco businesses to help their low-wage workers. We are seeking a volunteer with both the time and expertise to help us sell our signature service, a B2B program to help San Francisco businesses access hiring tax credits and provide community resources to their workers.
The ideal candidate will come from the B2B sales world, perhaps as an insurance broker, tax accountant, employee benefits provider, or financial advisor. We are seeking someone with five or more years of experience:
- cold and warm calling
- relationship-based sales of a complex, long-lead business service
- phone and in-person sales
- understanding of business taxes
We need someone who will:
- Learn the details of our service offering and articulate it to businesses
- Work independently, with little supervision, to meet our sales goals – respond to inbound inquiries, make outbound sales calls, attend meetings or conference calls to sell the service and close the sale
- Be an articulate and professional member of our business outreach team. As such, you will be introduced as a representative of SF Works, more than simply a volunteer.
Desired but not required experience also includes an understanding of:
- hiring tax credits
- the San Francisco small business community
- the challenges of owning and operating a business in San Francisco
- legislation in recent years that increases the costs of doing business in San Francisco
- Salesforce or other CRM
We are looking for a commitment of 20 hours a week or more for at least six months. We recognize that this is a significant commitment. The rewards of this volunteer position include knowing that our service can make a meaningful difference in the lives of San Franciscans who are working hard but still struggling to make ends meet; and that it saves businesses money during tough economic times, in turn helping them retain jobs and continue operating and contributing to our local economy. We are flexible about whether the person who fills this role will work from our offices or from home on his/her own computer and phone.
We will provide guidance; supervision; appreciation; and professional marketing support in the form of presentations, forums, a (soon to be revised) website and sales collateral. We will put a lot of thought and time into a process for bringing our volunteer up to speed in the background of our service.
