SF Works was founded in 1997 by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, the Committee on Jobs and the United Way of the Bay Area as a business response to welfare-to-work.
The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce serves as fiscal agent for SF Works. Under the fiscal sponsorship of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce Foundation, a 501(c)(3), SF Works receives no funding from the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce or the Foundation.
