Did you know there are more than 50,000 people who work in San
Francisco, labeled the “working poor”? Our clients
work hard, typically in service jobs taking care of our children
and elders, making our meals and in many other jobs that are
essential to our local economy and our daily lives. In San Francisco,
a family of four needs an income of more than $84,000- almost twice what
two adults working full-time at minimum wage earn.
The
"working poor" are people who aren't looking for a
handout but could really use a break. SF Works meets people
where they are, at work, and typically helps them save or receive
over $2,500 in annual savings, as well as enroll in many life-changing
programs. We also assist their employers with information about
how to access hiring tax credits that create and retain jobs.
Workers in San Francisco can count on SF Works to help them
access savings and community resources – can we count
on you to help too?
SF Works is supported by foundations, corporations, earned revenues
and people like you. It costs us $50 to help a person access
$2,500 – you can’t beat that 50:1 return.
