We sign you up for savings and discounts on everyday expenses such as transportation, utilities, healthcare and childcare. We also connect you to financial counseling, legal advice, skills training and other community assistance based on your needs. We meet with you at your worksite and in a short screening session explain our services, find out what you are interested in and eligible for, provide you with information and help you fill out and submit applications. We follow-up with you afterwards to make sure you've been able to access all the services you want. From our initial meeting, we can typically save you over $2,500 in annual expenses as well as help you get into community programs that will help you better make ends meet and get ahead.
Our goal is to help people working in San Francisco save money, build assets and gain new skills so they can better support themselves and their families.
Who
Qualifies?
People with a household income of up to $40,000 qualify for most of the savings. This means if you are paid less than $20 an hour we can help you better make ends meet and get ahead.
If I Have a Business, How
Will This Help?
Employers invite us into their workplaces because when we help their employees save money and get financial assistance it helps the business. They report that their employees have less stress, appreciate their employer for providing them with assistance and in a time when it's hard to pay people more money or provide richer benefits, we can put more money in people's pockets and add additional benefits. When we meet with employees, we can also identify richer hiring tax credits for the business, which makes a real difference for employers and helps to create and retain jobs. What People Say
"My father and I received our PG & E bill. It showed a 20 percent savings, which was a lot of money, and my father could hardly believe it. I told him it was because SF Works met with me at my workplace and signed us up for all these savings. We will get this savings each month and it will make a big difference!”
Marguerite, Memory Care Coordinator, AlmaVia of San Francisco
"We brought SF Works’ services to our various locations and they met one-on-one with our workers. Many of our employees could use additional resources while they work hard to support their families and advance their jobs. With support from SF Works, they receive savings in the form of discounted utilities, low-cost auto insurance, financial counseling-a financial boost critical to keeping them stable and productive in their jobs."
Rick Karp, Owner, Cole Hardware San Francisco
